Understanding the consciousness of magic
The late Indian guru Osho Rajneesh once told a gathering of disciples, “You can’t handle the truth, but I’ll tell you anyway: you’re all Gods!”
As flippant as Osho’s comment might seem, so, too, is it just as profound. The fact that we are Gods is the truth we have the most difficulty handling. The idea that we are pure Creative Spirit, possessed of an eternal nature, connected to everything through all time and space, is somehow too much for us to bear. We would rather not know it.
There is too much responsibility in accepting that within our own minds exists the same wisdom Solomon is said to have possessed, and the same Creative Consciousness we have no worries projecting on to Christ. It is too scary to own that we Know, that we have the divine ability to make our own way along the invisible path that is ours alone to follow. It is often easier, we believe, to give away our power, our divine birthright, and pretend that we are mere mortals – empty carcasses made of blood and bones.
From the moment we are born, we hear the word “NO” too often. “No, you can’t have that; No, you can’t do that; No, you can’t think that; No, you can’t go there.” We hear this message so often that we lose faith in our Selves. It becomes safer to assume we are perishable entities, individual units of existence separate from everyone and everything else in the universe. We resign ourselves to living in a world where we do not Know, where we have to be told everything, work everything out, see it to believe it. Rather than following our soul into the wide world of possibility, we choose to be guided by our experience, forever choosing safety over our spiritual destiny.
Given the conscious choice, not many of us would give up our freedom and choose to live as slaves. Yet the truth is, the vast majority of human beings - without even realizing it - have given up their free will and have, in a sense, chosen to be subjugated by forces outside of their true selves.
Like lemmings, we will follow anything as long as it is outside of ourselves. We tune in to the radio to hear how we should think, read fashion magazines to find out how we should dress, look to friends to approve of who we are dating, turn to religion to figure out the meaning of life, and rely in politicians to create employment and protect our borders.
Obviously we can not carry the whole world on our shoulders. The world we live in has become too complex for the individual to take care of every aspect of their own life. The vast majority of products and services we use and enjoy are produced and organized by other people. Unless we retreat to a cave in the Himalayas, we can not escape this fact. But we get ourselves into trouble when we assume that this inter-dependence means we do not hold the power in every area of our lives. This is when we are in danger of giving our power away in return for energy.
When ever a person or people give their power away to another individual or institution, it is in the expectation that the other will take care of some aspect of their life (if not all of it). The trouble is that abandoned power corrupts absolutely, because everyone has their own agenda, and when these agendas are not counter balanced by our own power, they run amuck. Cops start behaving like criminals, heads of state become war mongers, big businesses rape the environment, husbands beat their wives, lovers cheat on each other, and priests defile everything that is sacred.
We see the end result of unchecked agendas all around us. There never seems to be an end to the terror and the atrocities, the vice and corruption, the cheating and the stealing. The human tendency for perverted self interest is plainly visible to us, and as such, it becomes a convenient scape-goat for what is wrong with our lives and the world around us. We come to believe that the problem lies in the self serving behaviour of others, and that the solution, therefore, must lie in others changing their behaviour - a prospect which does not leave us with much hope.
What is seldom recognized is that the problem begins with us. When we give our power away, we open the door to the dark side of human nature, we give it permission. When we abandon the will to be the masters of our own destiny, we create a vacuum that is quickly filled by forces only too happy to steer us in directions our hearts would never take. We become victims of a second best life, oblivious to the fact we brought it on ourselves.
Life might not be a horror show exactly, but if we are taking our cues from anything other than our own truth, we are bound to be trapped in circumstances not to our liking. We live at the mercy of wage payers, government handouts, interest rates, what our friends and lovers prefer. Our lives always seem to be riding on issues we do not control. These issues pre-occupy us; they stress us out and rob us of the joy of being alive.
When we are stressed our immune systems break down and we become unhealthy. Poor health leads to negativity and depression. When we are negative and depressed we turn to whatever takes the pain away. Rarely, though, is what we turn to something that will fill us up long term and restore us to the radiance, vitality and awe we started out with. Slowly but surely, our divine potential is leached out of us until we are the bland, malleable entities that society can shape into whatever form suits its blind purpose.
It need not be so. The good news, of course, is that we are all Gods!
Gods are playful. Gods have fun. Gods do what they want to. They live life on their own terms, constantly bringing into existence whatever they love to create.
Imagine the joy such a being would enjoy. Imagine the freedom that would come from not having to worry about your circumstances. Imagine if suffering and death were just an illusion, and behind their mirage you could see that nothing ever died, that everything was being drawn inexorably towards its perfect conclusion. Imagine if you knew that life and the universe and time and space were a giant wave pushing to some infinite shore, that you were God travelling back to Your Self.
What would you have to worry about? What would you have to get together? What would matter to you?
Nothing!
Nothing except your heart. All you would be left with is your heart, what you truly want to create. Everything else would fall away.
Your mind would not have to manipulate you into survival mode. Your stress inducing pre-occupations would fade. You would sink back into your centre of equilibrium; fall back into your original state of wonder and awe. This is your true eternal condition – your birthright. Most people have consciously experienced it at one time or another. What we typically lack, though, are the tools to access our natural, inherent state of being at will.
While we might see glimpses and have peak experiences, most of us are sucked back into our dysfunctional pre-occupations all too easily. At the slightest provocation our victim-laden persona washes over us like a tidal wave, swamping us with its short sightedness and negativity.
This is a truly lamentable waste of potential. Our dysfunctional pre-occupations manipulate us into attending to them by increasing our stress levels. When we are not engaged in our mind-made dramas, we are relaxed and at peace. This equanimity in turn leads to good health, boosting our immune system in the bargain. When we are healthy our energy levels rise, causing us to be more positive and happy.
Optimistic, positive, happy individuals tend to be more functional and creative in their decision making process, and are apt to act more decisively in relation to the choices they make. Our chances of success are hugely increased, and success has a way of boosting us into an upward spiral. It makes us more optimistic, positive and happy.
Beyond the clinical, though, there is something even more wondrous at work, something beyond scientific measurement: a magical life force we call Spirit. When we assume that the power is always within us to create everything we love, we initiate a mysterious dynamic that begins aligning our life experience with the deepest aspirations of our own soul.
Be they within us or outside of us, agendas that do not resonate with our true essence lose their grip on us. We begin to see with our own eyes and walk our own glorious path. Once we take the first steps, we find there is absolutely no impediment to having what we love. The flow begins; Spirit races in to arrange the synchronicities, co-incidences and impeccable timing that smooth the way for our dreams to come true.
Taking back the power and becoming once again the creative force in your own life is truly mind blowing. The deepest dimensions of your Divine Creative Self are re-activated. Not only do you wake up to your dreams and dare to go for them, you actually re-connect with the magic of Existence. You realize that everything in the world is alive and imbued with Spirit, and that Spirit is always there, standing by ready to support you in manifesting your hearts desire.
Close your eyes for just a moment and imagine every rock and stone and blade of grass and tree and star at night, every single thing and non-thing in the universe being conscious, aware of your heart and there to serve it. Imagine what a joyful reality that might be! And whether you believe it or not, that reality is always there, patiently waiting for you to realize it. You can claim it any time you like. All it takes is Creator Consciousness.
Creator Consciousness is the awareness that the power to manifest your truth lies totally within Your Self.
It is the recognition that every end result you experience originates in your consciousness. Creator Consciousness assumes that you are a God, and when you take on that responsibility and begin acting as if that is so, you step into a whole new world of creative power and experience. The struggling Victim dies and the effortless Creator is born.
